Project Description
The Moltenbrey Apartments offer sober and substance-free living in downtown Turners Falls for individuals in recovery from alcohol and/or substance abuse. The historic property offers 26 single-room occupancy units with private kitchenettes and baths, a community kitchen, and a community living room. Second and third floor units are accessible by stairs and an elevator.

Basic eligibility for an apartment in the Moltenbrey is determined by income: applicants may make no more than 60% AMI (see Income Elibility Chart). Applicants must be committed to living in a sober and substance-free environment, and be actively working toward recovery with support from a contracted service provider (ServiceNet or DIAL/SELF). Please note that the maximum household size for tenancy at Moltenbrey apartments is one (1) household member.

Service Plan
To be considered for a room in the Moltenbrey, applicants must be firmly committed to a sober and substance-free life style. Each applicant must have a recovery service plan through ServiceNet or DIAL/SELF.

Waitlist Length
The Moltenbrey Apartments wait list depends largely on unit turnover. Usually, applicants wait 6 months to 1 year for a unit to become vacant although actual waiting times may be faster or slower depending on demand.

How to Apply
To apply for a unit at the Moltenbrey, fill out the MALP Application. If you do not have access to a printer, please call us or stop by the office to pick one up.

Application Process: Other Affordable Rental Housing

Further Screening
Once it is determined that a household meets the basic income, status, and/or rent affordability requirements, applicants are further screened in accordance with HRA policy and federal and state fair housing laws. As part of the application process, applicants must authorize HRA to conduct thorough background checks including criminal history and sex offender record information checks, rental history, credit history, and personal references.

Priorities and Preferences
The waiting lists for properties managed by HRA without state assistance are administered on a first-come, first-served basis. No priorities or preferences are available.
